Welcome to ProCustom Groups Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

As always, please reach out to us – we are here to help.

What is ProCustom Group’s core specialty?

We are the market leader in the customization and engineering modification of COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) rugged laptops, notebooks, and tablets for specialized applications.

Who are our primary customers?

Our primary customers include defense contractors, government agencies, and organizations in demanding industrial sectors that require highly specialized rugged portable computing solutions.

Do you only work with Getac products?

While we are a key customization partner for Getac, our engineering capabilities allow us to modify and integrate solutions into rugged COTS platforms from various leading manufacturers.

What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for a custom project?

We are optimized to support short to medium production runs, ranging from single-unit prototypes to full production runs of up to 1,500+ units

Why choose ProCustom Group over a standard COTS supplier?

Standard COTS manufacturers are often unwilling to perform low-to-medium volume customizations. We bridge this gap by offering rapid, cost-effective engineering solutions while maintaining the quality of the base rugged product.

Do you offer completely new, custom-built computers?

Our core focus is COTS modification, which is faster and more cost-effective. We can, however, design and build custom components and enclosures to integrate with a COTS base unit.

How do I start a customization project?

The best way to start is by submitting a detailed Request for Quotation (RFQ) through our website, outlining your product requirements and desired modifications. We promise to get back to you the same day! You can also email us at [email protected]

Where is ProCustom Group located?

Our entire operation is located at 13030 Alondra Blvd, Ste 101, Cerritos, CA 90703.

What is the typical lead time for a custom solution?

Lead times vary significantly based on project complexity, component availability, and required testing, but our “rapid response team” model is designed to minimize development cycles. Typically if its something we’ve sold before, we often target a 12-week lead time.

Do you offer support and repair services for modified units?

Yes, we provide comprehensive post-delivery support and have an official RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) process for repair and servicing.

What types of hardware modifications can you perform?

Modifications range from simple I/O changes (e.g., adding an external GPS connector) to complex system integrations, internal component additions, I/O transition to 38999 Mil-Connectors, and custom enclosures.

Can you integrate specialized communication I/O?

Yes, a common service is the integration of specialized MIL-SPEC or custom circular connectors for radio, power, or data I/O.

Do you design custom PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards)?

Yes, our electrical engineers design and manufacture custom circuit boards, controllers, and interfaces required to integrate specialized components into the COTS platform.

Can you integrate third-party peripherals or sensors?

Yes, our expertise includes integrating customer-furnished equipment, such as unique GPS modules, specific communication radios, and specialized sensors, directly into the rugged chassis.

How do you ensure the modified product remains rugged?

Every modification is meticulously engineered and often 3rd party tested to ensure the final product meets or exceeds the original environmental and ruggedness specifications, such as MIL-STD-810/MIL-STD-461/MIL-STD-464 and IP ratings.

Can you assist with thermal management modifications?

Yes, complex internal modifications often require thermal analysis and custom cooling solutions to maintain optimal operational performance in extreme temperature environments.

Can you handle custom finishes, painting, or coating?

Yes, we can apply custom colors, specialized coatings (e.g., CARC paint), and custom labeling/branding as required by the customer’s military or industrial application.

Do you provide engineering documentation and CAD files?

Yes, comprehensive technical documentation, including mechanical drawings, CAD models, and test reports, are typically provided as part of the project deliverables.

What kind of testing is performed on customized units?

Testing can include environmental (shock, vibration, temperature, altitude), functional, system performance, and EMC testing, all defined by the customer’s requirements.

Can you modify the display for night vision (NVIS) compatibility?

Yes, display customization is a common requirement (MIL-STD-3009, including modifications for sunlight readability and compatibility with Night Vision Imaging Systems.

Do you handle software or BIOS modifications?

While we focus on hardware, we coordinate closely with the base OEM and the customer to ensure any necessary BIOS/firmware changes or custom software configurations are implemented.

Can you assist with obsolescence management?

Yes, we provide long-term support and lifecycle planning for the customized components we integrate, helping to manage component obsolescence over the program’s life.

What is the process for re-ordering an established customized unit?

Once a system is finalized and approved, its specifications are locked down, allowing us to quickly and efficiently process repeat production orders.

Do you offer system integration (OS loading, image configuration)?

Yes, we can handle the final system assembly, configuration, and image loading of customer-specified operating systems and applications before delivery.

Can you meet specific electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements?

Yes, our electrical engineers have specific expertise in EMC shielding and design to ensure all modifications comply with strict military and industrial EMC standards.

What Quality Management certifications do you hold?

ProCustom Group is certified to both the AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 quality management system standards.

Is ProCustom Group ITAR Registered?

Yes, we are ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) Registered to handle defense-related technical data and services.

Do you hold a GSA contract?

Yes, we hold GSA (General Services Administration) Schedule contract 47QTCA22D0019, facilitating procurement by government entities.
